Eco-friendly transport

Transport accounts for about 24% of global CO₂ emissions, and personal cars are the biggest single slice. The good news: this is also where individual action has the biggest impact.

A short daily commute by bike instead of car saves around 1.5 tonnes of CO₂ per year — equivalent to 7 transatlantic flights. Even one or two car-free days per week makes a measurable dent.

When you do drive, share the ride. A car with 4 people emits per-person less than most trains. Drive smoothly, keep tyres inflated, and remove roof racks when not used.

For longer trips, the train almost always wins: a Paris–London Eurostar emits 90% less than the equivalent flight. Avoid short-haul flights whenever a 5-hour train alternative exists.
